Things Not Seen

When fifteen-year-old Bobby wakes up and finds himself invisible, he and his parents and his new blind friend Alicia try to find out what caused his condition and how to reverse it. Yes! Believe it or not, the parents actually know what's going on with their kid! Makes the story even more interesting. This is also one of my favorite books, and there are two sequels you won't want to miss: Things Hoped For and Things That Are.

  1. This book has a nice story line and shows a really heart warming friendship develop from start to finish. All in all this book is a definite must read if you enjoy a teens perspective, I certainly could relate to this book.

    1. I agree, the bond between the two of them was pretty great. Still the bond was mostly caused by his incident. I also liked being able to relate to this book.

    1. W3magalloway, I agree with you because Bobby and Alicia's relationship was beautiful, but I tended to get angry with the characters. For example, when Alicia kept getting defensive when Bobby asked if her sight problem was an accident, I felt the erge to explain to her that he wasn't trying to make her feel bad. He just was curious and wanted her to know that someone was interested in her. Although this is the only book that I have finished so far (I have little to compare it to), I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a wonderful story, and I loved how all of the clues fit together to make a complete puzzle at the end.

    2. W3magalloway, I am happy Alicia got upset. It added to the conflict of the story. She wasn't afraid to show her true self to Bobby.

  4. This novel was a great book from a modern day teens perspective on life. I definetly didn't like the book as much as I could of, I didn't like how the characters solved the main conflict of the story. Overall this story was a good book to read but just not my "taste" in novels.

  5. In my opinion, this was a wonderful book. It wasn't a very challenging read as far as language and text goes, but it really helped me with problem solving. Every chapter kept me wanting to find out more clues to help reveal why Bobby, the main character, became invisible. The imagery used throughout the book was also incredible! For example, when describing how difficult it was to walk up and down stairs without being able to see your feet, Clements was really able to help you understand the struggle.

  6. “Things Unseen” is so far my favorite Reader’s Choice Book! The conflict that takes place in it just made me unable to keep my head out of the book. Things kept surprising me, and made me laugh at times too! The ending was such a sweet shocker! This is a wonderful book for anyone and everyone to read!

  7. sorry for my last blogs, they didn't meet the requirements and they were short. This was my favorite book out of the 3 I read. "Things Not Seen" is in 1st person point of view and I love knowing the sweet things that Bobby thinks about Alicia. This book is amazing and I highly recommend reading this novel if you haven't.

    1. I agree completely with W3magalloway! I loved hearing Bobby's sweet thoughts on Alicia. She meant alot to Bobby and the author did a great job of showing that. In my opinion their relationship made the book a lot more interesting!

  8. I liked the book a lot, I know it didn't have any real action. Still I related to it a little and I kept enjoying the book. I couldn't put the book down just because there was always a part where I wanted to see what happened next. The book even had some stuff that made me laugh. I would recommend this book for anyone.

    1. I partially agree with this comment. I really didn't have any trouble putting it down at most times since it was so slow going, but I still really enjoyed the comedy involved and it was a great book. Still, no ending

  9. This book was really good. The beginning felt really slow to me, but then it really picked up. The main conflict, Bobby being invisible, was kind of a stretch for me. So when they started to actually figure out what happened to him, I enjoyed the book more. Overall, I think this book was good, and I would recommend it to anyone.

  10. This book was excrutiating and so very suspensful. It had me on the edge of my seat while reading, the whole time. It was inspirational but humorous and it had me attached at the start. I would totally recommend this book to some of my friends.

  11. As implausible as it might be I really enjoyed the story. It's not really the cut-throat action of Percy Jackson, but hey, what is? The plot was really fun to get into and loved the comedy involved. If I had one complaint, no ending.

  12. In my opinion, this book was very confusing. The idea of someone becoming completely invisible is a hard concept for me to grasp. Because of Booby's large external conflict, he also had to deal with many internal conflicts. One example of a very important internal conflict he had was when he had to decide how to tell Alicia, his blind friend, that he was invisible. Though this book was very hard for me to understand, I think many other people would like it alot because of the imagination it makes you use!

  13. This was a great book overall, but it could have had a better ending in my opinion. The suspense was awesome and kept me on the edge of my seat though and I really enjoyed the bond between Bobby and Alicia. If I rated this book on a scale of 1-5 it would be a 4.

  14. I really enjoyed this book! The suspense was great and it didn't confuse me at all, however it did make you think a little. The conflicts Bobby faced, both internal and external, really made me feel for him. He had to adjust to not being able to see his body and try his hardest to put his arms and legs in the proper place for whatever things he was doing. Even then, he had to make sure he could trust Alicia, his blind friend, with his secret of being invisible. I congratulate Alicia for being so determined to figure out why Bobby was invisible and not completely freaking out when she found out that Bobby was walking around naked. I couldn't imagine how uncomfortable both Alicia and Bobby were throughout this whole experience. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story.

  15. The humor, love, and suspense in this book made it so worth reading from beginning to end! I loved how Alicia and Bobby had this unspoken connection that neither would say, but they could feel it! The dramatic irony in this book way amazing! Just knowing that the whole the whole time he was walking with Alicia, he was naked and she didn’t! I could only imagine the fear she must have had when she finally realized! I really loved reading this book and would highly recommend it to everyone! I really enjoyed the ending, because of its shocking twist!

    1. I completely agree with you W3McMahon, enjoyed the little arguments between Alicia and Bobby. I thought this book was very interesting. I also think this book kind of taught a little lesson about not to judge someone just because they have something wrong with them. I would definitely read this again and I would recommend anyone to try to read it!

  16. This book is incredible! I love the theme of the story: How it feels to be invisible. A teenager named Bobby wakes up one morning. It's a normal morning, except for the fact that he is invisible! He can't go to school, or anywhere really. People begin to wonder where he is, and the police get involved. They search his house and ask his mother where he is. She tells them he is visiting with a relative in Florida. They respond by saying that if they don't see him within three days, his parents are going to jail. He can't show himself to the police, or he might get donated to science. If he doesn't, then they will go to jail. Which road will he choose?

  17. I absolutely ADORED this book! It had humor, fantasy, typical teenage emotions, and even some small romance! This story had me wondering about the mystery of invisibility from the get-go! I loved to read about the friendship between Bobby and Alicia, and how Bobby was able to find out more about his struggle, along with Alicia. To learn more about their different struggles... You should read this! It is most definitely exciting and sweet. I laughed at this book multiple times; Bobby is hilarious! I recommend this book to anyone who loves realistic fantasies. This book is a 5 out of 5!

  18. W3fandrich I totally agree! He had to endure many new hardships, which made me really think about whether being invisible would be as fun as it sounds. I guess now when you think about walking straight without seeing where your feet are going, you can figure it out. Also, I agree about Alicia, and how hard it must've been for both of them to trust each other. I loved this book!

  19. I really loved this book. I honestly thought it would've been really different than what it was. I really loved the imagery and suspense the author used. I never really got confused reading this book. If I was going to rate this book a 1-5, I would give this book a 5.
