The Compound

Fifteen-year-old Eli, locked inside a radiation-proof compound built by his father to keep them safe following a nuclear attack, begins to question his future, as well as his father's grip on sanity as the family's situation steadily disintegrates over the course of six years.

  1. The Compound is a extraordinary novel it is has a very twisted sense realism and is on my top list of favorite reads. The author knows how to play your emotions and bewilder you. The story is to the point yet still has enough details to keep you interested and enveloped in the story(which is absolutely magnificent). In all honesty I would recommend this novel to most people who are able to handle the realism of a world with no contact with the outside world and one person in charge of everything including what you eat.

  2. This book is, well, no words can describe how great this book is. The plot is twisted but interesting. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It gives you the chance to realize what a world with no phones or computers, no contact at all, would be like.

  4. The Compound is an excellent book that states realistic and possible events that could happen in a modern day world. It also has an amazing "roller-coaster" of a plot with a major twist. This is definitely on my "never forget list".

  5. The compound is a very different. From the average “That’s pretty cool” book. Allowing the author to explore how humans want to play god. Then call it medical breakthrough so they can go do something totally twisted. Allowing for a great and interesting book.

    1. I agree. This book was very different than most books, I loved how it portrayed the "humans acting as if they were God".

  6. The Compound is somewhat a mix between mystery and suspense (in my opinion.) I like how the author escalates the suspense slowly as the book progresses, and how the point of view is told. The only thing that I think would be cool for this story is from the father's point of view, that would be interesting! The only downside to the story is how slow the beginning is. Other than that this is a very good book!

    1. I agree with your opinion, this book contained a great deal of suspense and the author added some mystery toward the end of the book. I disagree with you about the beginning of story, I was hooked after reading the first few pages. I never thought about it being in the father's perspective. I think that would be very interesting.

    2. H1willey I agree completly. The beginning of this book was a bit slow. I had a hard time really getting into it and honestly was a bit confused for a while! The suspense in this book was very well done. It was a fun, great read! I absolutely loved how different this book is from most of your average books. I thought the plot was brilliant too.

  7. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, the prologue will grab out almost instantly, and the middle will keep you wanting more. The ending may be rather weak and/or indifferent from most other stories, this "counter intuitive" ending is a mere trade off for the excellence of the story as a whole. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a change from your typical, "post apocalyptic" style book.

    1. I agree, there was so much detail in the first half, I made a prediction about the major plot twist, and was right in the end.

  8. In all honesty The Compound is one of the best books I have ever read. It shows how in reality a person who is very successful, may not be as sane as you'd think. I loved how the author of the story built up to the climax. The author did an amazing job adding an amzing twist towards the end of this novel; also leaving a bit of mystery at the end. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes to read near future war reads; but you also need to be a strong reader to keep up and comprehend this novel.

The vivid details and amazing twists the author uses leaves you craving more and wanting to read on to see how the story ends. 17. This book was a very futuristic, high impact novel with many many plot twists. Very easy read but not to the point where it was a breeze through. Alot of action and family disputes. The twist at the end made the whole book worth while. I highly reccomend this book to those who are into science and war history on nucelar subjects.

    1. Although it was such a good book, I felt like it was too short. I agree with H1Page about the recommendations, but I don't agree that it wasn't a breeze.

  19. This book has to be one of my most favorite books. EVER. It was soooooo supsensful and had me on edge every minute. There were so many mysteries to uncover and they were played out so well. I couldn't really figure out what was going on at first, but when you got more into the book and actually started reading it, everything fit together perfectly. I would, without a doubt, recommend this to anyone, hands on. No second thoughts. I loved it.

  20. This book has the most suspense in it out of all of the books i read. Especially towards the end of the book. I loved how the setting was a lesser visited city in the country. The envirornment in the compound made the suspense greater since they felt trapped. The book overall was one of the best books I've ever read.

  21. I think this book was the best out of all of them. The characterization in the beginning was amazing, seeing as I remember all of the characters and their personalities. I am going to read the sequel to this, titled Fallout. It sounds just as good as the original, and I'm excited for it.

  22. "The Compound" is a novel about a very wealthy family, whose dad has a serious interest in nuclear war. We follow the plot, and find out that the compound that the father built has very many flaws. As food runs low, they decide to make some very sick decisions about where to obtain their protein from.

  23. To me, the compund really did explore both physical and mental situations that easily could have taken place. For me, the realism of this book is really what helped me to continue reading. Once the book began it caught your attention and drew you in more and more the further you read into the book.

  24. This book was really interesting to read. It was hard for me to read at first but I got the hang of reading it and I am glad a read it. I was very surprised by the twist at the end. If I were to rate this book on a scale of one to five, I'd give it a high three. You'd be interested in this book if you like to read somewhat futuristic books.

  25. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely read another book by this author. My favorite character was Eli. This book was really good and I had no problem reading right through it. I loved the plot and the sick and twisted plot twist. My favorite part was when Eli connected to the internet and got back into contact with his twin brother Eddy and found out that there never was a nuclear attack. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone.
