Trapped

The day the blizzard started, no one knew that it was going to keep snowing for a week. That for those in its path, it would become not just a matter of keeping warm, but of staying alive. . . . Scotty and his friends Pete and Jason are among the last seven kids at their high school waiting to get picked up that day, and they soon realize that no one is coming for them. Still, it doesn't seem so bad to spend the night at school, especially when distractingly hot Krista and Julie are sleeping just down the hall. But then the power goes out, then the heat. The pipes freeze, and the roof shudders. As the days add up, the snow piles higher, and the empty halls grow colder and darker, the mounting pressure forces a devastating decision. . . .

  1. This book is amazing. It is packed with action and unbelievable decision making. The author will have you hanging on every last word. It takes you on a rollar coaster that you wont want to get off. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery and action books.

  3. I didn't think it was filled with action but it was still very good. It also didn't have me on the edge of my seat, and it left me hanging at the end of the book.

    1. I agree. The author should've put more time into the conclusion.

  4. When I began reading this book, I was somewhat disinterested because of all the cliches, but as I read on, I was surprised by the unexpected chain of events that led to the climax. I had not seen it coming at all. Then, as the falling action dwindled the excitement down, I eagerly flipped the page expecting to find a jaw-dropping conclusion. I was let down to find that there were so many loose ends. What happened to Coach Gossell? Did all the kids make it home? Great book, but a disappointing end.

    1. I completely agree with you. The ending left so many questions and was not fulfilling at all. I couldn't believe that he wrote so many things happening up to the end, and leaving it like that. He could have done much better with it, but he just left us there wanting to continue turning non-existent pages.

  5. I agree. This book was not very exciting until the last couple of chapters. It was a very predictable book and I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

  6. I really liked this book, but it was kind of slow at times. Michael didn't really put much time into the conclusion, but the suspense at the end was terrifyingly amazing. My favorite character in the end besides Scotty was Jason. He would be the kind of person that I would be friends with.

  7. This book was very well written. It is by far my favorite book I have read so far this year. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole book because the suspense was killing me. I recommend this book to anybody because everything in this book deserves to be read and you will be shocked by the outcome.

  8. I agree 100% with W2McMahon. I really did like the book, but as the falling action did die down some. I was dissapointed with the ending, and all the loos ends. What happened to everyone? Did they get the others out? I loved the book, but the ending was a little frustrating.

  9. I did not like this book. It didn't have as much suspence as I excpected. I agree with W2McMahon that the end was disapointing

  10. Throughout this story, all I could think about was the lack of suspense. It was a great story and I always wanted to read it, but this book never kept me on the edge of my seat. This book was short and jam packed with details. I have a burning hatred for the ending of this book because there were so many questions I had that were left unanswered. I loved this book but I very much disliked the ending and its lack of suspense.

    1. I agree with W3fandrich. I had heard everyone talking about how good this book was, and it was full with suspense. I was let down throughout the book. I kept reading it hoping it would pick up but it never did. The ending left a lot of open questions and not enough closure.

  11. This book was amazing. I never lost interest in it. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next the whole time. The only part I didn't like was the ending, and I only didn't like the ending because it left a lot of information unclosed. Other than that this book was great and I definitely recommend you reading this book.

    1. I agree with you H1Shelton. It was very suspenseful but the ending was a let down. Michael Northrop left a lot of loose ends in the ending of the story.I don't like stories that leave a cliffhanger at the end.

    2. I agree with H2Shelton. I never lost interest until the end. The book needed to have a more definite ending, not an indefinite one. Otherwise the author did an exceptional job developing the plot which led into the outstanding climax.

  12. This book was outstanding! Trapped is full of figurtive langage that speads color all over the words of this book. It has a few mysteries and a lot of suspense. So far, from what Ive heard this book has had many good reviews. Reading this book I could imagine all of the senes playing out in my head, thats how descrptive this book is. I encourage you, if you get a chance to read this book.

    1. I agree and disagree with H2keeney. I thought the book was great but I thought that there was absolutely no suspense. I have heard numerous people say how they didn't like the book at all but I would agree with you that the book had its exciting moments. I didn't particularly love this book and I wouldn't recommend it.

  13. Overall, this book was superb! Michael Northrop, the author uses a lot of imagery. I could picture the setting and the characters great. I also kept thinking about what would happen if I got stranded at my school. It would be terrible. I felt so sorry for them. The ending of the book was weak. There were so many cliff hangers. Like, what happened to Coach Gossell? Or, did the rest of the students live? And, did Scotty's mother and the rest of the familys and the town survive? The author needs to write either a book talking about the clean up or he needs to tell what happened in the end.

  14. This book was average. It was a good book but it left a lot things unclear. My first thought was "Where is the Ending?" For example, It didn't tell you what happened to the Coach or the students and their families? I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful survival stories. But just remember about the abrupt ending.

    1. I agree with H2Flynn. It was a good story, but it did leave you wondering. I wish the author would have told us more about what happened to the students and their families as well. However, I loved the fact that it was a survival story, and how they had to think things through.

  15. This book wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The way the book was described made it seem better than it really is. I didn't get into the book and I wish that Micheal Northrop would have written the ending differently. I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who likes to get involved in the story. I more than likely will not read anymore books by this author.

  16. Trapped, I found, was a bit monotonous. I mean in a good survival story, at least someone knows what they're doing. The whole story is just the main character's view of waking up, being cold, and finding food. I mean, a few characters thought the heat would kick back on even after the power went out. And despite they're current situation, the author puts romance IN A SURVIVAL STORY. I really didn't enjoy the ending either. Did the main character even have a mother to go home to after the storm? Did any of the other kids? I give this book a 2 out of 5. If you want a real survival story, read Snowbound, Hatchet, The River, and most of Gary Paulsen's other books.

  17. I would not recommend reading this book. The climax was short, and there was not much suspense at all. I also didn't like the way it ended. The whole book overall was okay. I agree with W1Turner, the book left a load of unanswered questions.

  18. I say this was a heart-warming story, but alas, I cannot. The brutal truth is that this story had reality that made you just depressed because of how bad the situation looked. The one thing I wish was the switch up the point of views on the story because you don't want to know just how one person feels, thinks, or know about the story. But each and every kid there should tell the story. I also agree with W1Turner about the whole unanswered questions, romance, and the whole group being divided up. I really question the authors thinkings on those parts of the story.

  19. This was not one of the best books I have ever read. It was extremely slow and hard to get interested in. Being slow could have been a feature I was capable of overlooking if there were eventually a point to the story, but since there never was, I would give this book 2 out of 5 stars. I kept waiting for something to happen that would lead the story to its climax, but it just continued with the characters complaining, arguing, and being cold and hungry. I found myself being more annoyed with the plot line than taking enjoyment out of reading. It also didn't have a proper ending. It was almost as if the author had gotten bored with his own book and suddenly decided to quit writing. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

  20. Trapped is a very good book that i would highly recommend. This book, like many of the other books i read had a slow start. This book starts rooling pretty fast thow after that. It is very, very suspencecful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The main character and the people who he is trapped with learen the true meaning of life. If you like action, adventure, tradegy, comedy, or romance. You need to read this book.

    1. W3Ellison, no offense, but I disagree greatly. I agree that the book got off to a slow start, but it didn't get too much faster throughout the rest of the book. Imagine this stories plot was written out on a sheet of paper. Other books have a couple mountains on them, this book has a couple of anthills. In my opinion, this book was slow and boring. Although if you find a book that has all the characteristics that you described in the above summary, tell me, I think I would like to read it.

  21. I believe that this book was very interesting towards the beginning, but as the story progressed I lost interest. My favorite part about this book was its realistic setting. On a scale of 1 – 5, I rate this book a 4 out of 5. The main reason I give it this exceptional score is because of the intriguing plot. It attracted my attention to every single detail. The only reason I did not give it a 5 out of 5 was due to the ending. I don’t think they made many sensible decisions. Then again, these decisions toward the end were also the essential ones to determine death or survival.

  22. I honestly really didn't enjoy this book that much. There wasn't a real antagonist, unless you count ice and snow. I hated the ending, how it just left us hanging like that. The book was slow, and I can't really enjoy books that are slow.

  23. This book was amazing! It's one of the best books I've ever read! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I like the humorous, sarcastic tone kept throughout the book. Although it was slow at first, once the action starts it doesn't stop. I wish the book would've ended better. I wanted to know what happened to everyone after the storm! If your looking for a short, entertaining book, I recommend this book to you!

  24. I disagree with W3Srein, In my opinion, the book was very slow and had a lond drug out rising action. As the story progressed it started to how they survived. It also shows fights between friends and enemies as well an between lovers. The book got more suspenceful as the book went. If I had given a review on the first part of the book, it would be very low but the last part of the nook would be high.

  25. I enjoyed this book. I loved the humor the author used, and how the story was told through a teenagers perspective. The author used a lot of figurative language that really helped bring the story to life. He also used great imagery to help the readers understand more of what it was like to be trapped. I really recommend this book to anyone.

  26. I had some mixed emotions when reading this book. In the beginning when the story was introducing the protagonist, I feel like the foreshadowing enticed me to want to read more. On the other hand however, the middle section of the book lacked in style and flavor. I will admit though, I couldn't put this book down toward end of the book. The survival of the fittest concept kept me on the edge of my seat. I rate this book a 4 out of 5.

  27. I thought this book was very slow-paced and predictable, aside from the ending. I liked the diversity between all the characters, with Les and Elijah being my favorite. There was too much time in the book where all of the characters stand around waiting, and nothing happening. Despite that, I mostly liked the book. The ending, though, was terrible. It didn't wrap up the book very well at all, and I hate how they all decided to make stupid choices. I wanted to throw the book across the room! I would recommend this book to people who like short, to-the-point books that don't take too long to read.

  28. Trapped is a book about A high school kid named Scotty who gets stuck in school during a snow storm, or "North Easter", along with his two best friends and five other students. These students have to figure out how to survive this storm while stuck in a school, and the snow piling up. Will they be rescued or will they get trapped? I would only recommend this book to anyone who likes a slow book, and has to guess on what happens to the kids.

  29. I liked this book, but is was most definitely no the best book I have ever read. This book is interesting and very realistic it, but the author drags out every little detail and this makes the book boring and hard to read at some points. I might consider reading another book by this author to see if it is any better, but for the most part I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

  30. I believe this was a good book, but it was unbelievably boring. The plot of this story reminded my of a piece of paper, FLAT. The book was so predictable: we're stuck in the school, the power goes out, we are abandoned by the adult, it gets cold, must find food, etc. etc.. I would recommend this book to people who don't like to read complicated books, or just need it for a grade.
